Description

This elegant highball is designed to honour Scotch whisky without overwhelming the evening. Light, aromatic and gently sweetened, it allows the character of the whisky to shine while remaining refreshing enough to accompany conversation, poetry and a full Burns Night Supper.

Inspired by classic whisky serves rather than modern mixology, this cocktail balances warmth and brightness. Agave Nectar (or maple) softens the whisky’s edge, fresh lemon lifts the drink, and chilled soda keeps everything light. It’s ideal both as a welcoming drink and as a final toast to Rabbie Burns.

Ingredients
  • 50 ml Scotch whisky
  • 10 ml agave nectar or maple syrup
  • 10 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 100 ml chilled soda water
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnish: lemon peel, rosemary or thyme sprig
Instructions

    Fill tall highball glasses with ice.

    Add the whisky to the glass, followed by the agave nectar and lemon juice.

    Stir gently to combine.

    Top with chilled soda water and give a final light stir.

    Garnish with a strip of lemon peel or a sprig of rosemary or thyme, if desired, and serve immediately.
