Description

No Thanksgiving plate is complete without cranberry sauce, and this homemade version is miles ahead of anything from a tin. Simmered gently with orange zest and a touch of cinnamon, this vibrant sauce is tangy, sweet, and spiced in just the right way.

It’s incredibly easy to make and can be prepared days in advance, freeing you up for more demanding dishes on the day.

Ingredients
  • 250 g fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 120 ml orange juice
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 4 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp soft brown sugar
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 60 ml water
Instructions
  1. 1
Place the cranberries, orange juice, orange zest, maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, and water in a medium saucepan.
  2. 2
Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. 3
Cook for 10–15 minutes, or until most of the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
  4. 4
Taste and adjust sweetness if needed. Allow to cool completely — the sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
  5. 5
Serve chilled or at room temperature.
