Description

This cocktail is Bonfire Night in a glass, a smoky-sweet spark of warmth to toast the night. It layers spiced apple, ginger, and a whisper of whisky, balanced with tangy lemon and a flicker of heat. The result is golden, glowing, and gently fiery, with an aroma that feels like standing near a crackling bonfire under the November sky.

It’s designed to be both comforting and show-stopping: easy to make in batches, beautifully served in old-fashioned glasses, and even more spectacular when finished with a smoking cinnamon stick or a sparkler (for a touch of safe pyrotechnics). Whether served as guests arrive or alongside dessert, it’s the perfect drink to light up the night.

Ingredients
  • 40 ml Scotch whisky (or a good-quality smoky whisky)
  • 20 ml ginger liqueur (or 10 ml ginger syrup for a lighter version)
  • 20 ml cloudy apple juice
  • 10 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 5 ml maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
  • Ice cubes
  • Cinnamon sticks, for garnish (lightly toasted if desired)
  • Apple slices or dried orange wheels, to serve
Instructions
  1. 1
Fill a cocktail shaker (or jug) with ice. Add the whisky, ginger liqueur, apple juice, lemon juice, and maple syrup if using. Shake or stir until well chilled.
  2. 2
Strain into old-fashioned glasses filled with ice.
  3. 3
Garnish each glass with a cinnamon stick and a thin slice of apple or dried orange wheel.
  4. 4
For an optional touch of drama, briefly toast the cinnamon stick before adding it — the smoky aroma will curl up from the glass like bonfire smoke.
